Now, as we all know, one prominent feature of the show is the fact that there are no adults present in Friendly Falls, which raises a question to everyone's mind:
- Where are Sunny's (and, by extension, the other residents of Friendly Falls) parents?
I've got my own theory about it which goes like this:
- Friendly Falls is some sort of program where parents send their kids to get an early taste of working life.
However, I'm sure I'm not the only one with a theory about this, and I'd love to hear any theories that other fans might have about this.

That would sound potentially possible, if it wasn't for one obvious fact that invalidates the entire concept, Sunny having a medium rigid driver's license.
For context, you can only have one of those if you've been driving for 10 years prior to taking the medium rigid driving test.
Since Sunny is 10 years old, did she start driving when she was a newborn baby?

Now, I'm sure there’s a logical explanation for that. Maybe the vehicles in Friendly Falls were designs to be driven by kids. I mean, they are different than what you'd typically see anywhere else.

I am curious, what modifications could be made to allow a medium rigid vehicle to be safely driven by a 10 year old?
I'm assuming a speed governor would be the most practical one, so Sunny couldn't drive at an unsafe speed.
But she does vaguely make a reference to driving faster when she's late for a particular event.
The same episode also has Lacey modifying the engine block of the Glam Van to go faster.

Yeah, that’s it. Some kind of speed restriction device would be a feature. As for Lacey's modifications, well, she never said they were legal.

But anyways, we got a little sidetracked with that. Where could Sunny's parents be in the series?

The subject of parentage has oddly, never come up.
The closest we get is Rox having Lulu for a cousin, meaning she has an Aunt or Uncle who is a brother or sister to one of her parents. But they never say that onscreen, except for Lulu being her cousin.
I'm guessing it would break the immersion concept of the show if they were to acknowledge the adults, so simply do not.
The only other similar concept I can think of is the girls from the band HJ5 in Kuu Kuu Harajuku, aside from one girl having a niece, the subject of family has never come up.
But that's not quite the same, since the show does feature adults.

I know. Lots of Nick Jr. shows have child characters whose parents are never seen, but for Sunny Day, it’s almost like adults don’t even exist.

I'm guessing that's the concept the show creators had in mind, that the "adults do not exist", however improbable and impossible that may be.
I've tried to figure it out a few times, but can't make sense of it.
I get the idea that they're trying to create a show where kids can do anything, but not sure why that concept should require them to erase parents from acknowledgement completely.

My thoughts exactly. A world where kids can have cars and drive vehicles that doesn’t show any signs of adults just doesn’t make sense.
